Dagustu Park: the historic viewpoint with the best views of Baku

History of the park

The park has a long and eventful history that mirrors the story of Baku itself. It began as the English Park, was renamed Kirov Park and later Kirov Garden during the Soviet era, and after Azerbaijan's independence reclaimed the name Highland Park before being completely renovated between 2011 and 2013, with new gardens, ornamental cascades, night lighting and viewing terraces.

The Eternal Flame and the Alley of Martyrs

Inside the park is the entrance to the Alley of Martyrs, the memorial cemetery for Azerbaijani citizens who fell during the independence conflicts and the Nagorno-Karabakh war. The eternal flame burning here adds a solemn and moving dimension to the visit.

The Baku funicular

The most comfortable and scenic way to reach Dagustu Park is the Baku funicular, which departs from the area of the National Carpet Museum on the Bulvar and climbs to the park in just a few minutes. The journey itself already offers spectacular views of the bay and the seafront promenade.

How to visit Dagustu Park

The park is open 24 hours and admission is free. It is especially recommended at sunset to watch the Flame Towers gradually light up. The funicular operates on limited hours; check current timetables at the ticket booth.
