It is an extraordinary journey through Georgia, where each day brings a new discovery on this 5-day tour. This carefully designed itinerary takes you on an adventure combining millennia of history, breathtaking nature and living culture in the heart of the Caucasus. From the mystical monasteries of David Gareji to the cave city of Vardzia, every stop has been chosen to offer you an immersive experience of Georgia's rich heritage. You will explore ancient fortresses, medieval towns, rock-hewn monasteries and legendary wine valleys, all while immersing yourself in Georgia's famous hospitality and exceptional cuisine. The journey begins in the Kakheti region, Georgia's wine heartland, visiting the impressive David Gareji monastic complex and the charming medieval town of Sighnaghi, known as the "City of Love". The adventure continues into the Caucasus mountains, where the majestic Ananuri complex and the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church with its spectacular views of Mount Kazbegi await. The route takes you through the cave city of Uplistsikhe, the architectural gems of Kutaisi such as Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery, and on to the historic Samtskhe-Javakheti region. The journey culminates in the exploration of the stunning cave city of Vardzia and Khertvisi Fortress, providing a perfect ending to this adventure that combines Georgia's most important historic treasures with its most spectacular landscapes.

Itinerario

Day 1 - Tbilisi - David Gareji - Sighnaghi - Telavi

David Gareji

David Gareji David Gareji Monastery, an extraordinary rock-hewn monastic complex from the 6th century, is located in the arid border region between Georgia and Azerbaijan. Founded by the Assyrian monk David Garejeli, this sacred site comprises hundreds of cells, churches, chapels and refectories distributed across multiple levels of the mountain, notable for its unique medieval frescoes blending Georgian and Byzantine styles. During our exploration, we will climb ancient paths to the upper caves, admire the impressive 11th- and 12th-century frescoes and enjoy panoramic views of the semi-arid Gareji desert. Bodbe Monastery

Monasterio de Bodbe Bodbe Monastery, located in the Kakheti region, is one of Georgia's most important pilgrimage sites, as it houses the tomb of Saint Nino, the evangelist who brought Christianity to the country in the 4th century. This monastic complex, surrounded by centuries-old cypress trees and lush gardens, combines architectural elements from the 9th and 17th centuries, highlighted by its three-nave basilica and traditional frescoes. During our visit, we will descend the sacred path to Saint Nino's miraculous spring, take in the views over the Alazani valley and experience the deep spirituality that pervades this holy place. Sighnaghi

Signagui Sighnaghi, known as the "City of Love", is a picturesque walled town in the wine region of Kakheti, 790 metres above sea level. This 18th-century town, surrounded by a 4-kilometre wall with 23 towers, offers stunning views of the Alazani valley and the Caucasus mountains. It is renowned for its traditional Georgian architecture, cobblestone streets and carved wooden balconies. During our visit, we will stroll through its romantic lanes, sample the famous Kakhetian wines in traditional cellars and watch the sunset over the valley from its ancient defensive walls. Day 2 - Telavi - Ananuri - Gergeti - Gudauri

Ananuri

Ananuri Ananuri, a stunning medieval fortress 66 kilometres from Tbilisi, rises majestically above the Zhinvali reservoir on the historic Georgian Military Highway. This 13th-century architectural complex, which served as the seat of the eristavis (dukes) of Aragvi, combines defensive features with extraordinary examples of Georgian religious architecture, highlighted by its main church with intricate stone reliefs and well-preserved frescoes. During our visit, we will explore the fortified towers, admire the panoramic views of the turquoise reservoir and discover the secrets of medieval Georgian architecture as we stroll through its ancient cobbled courtyards.  

Gergeti Trinity Church

Trinidad de Gergeti The Gergeti Trinity Church stands majestically at 2,170 metres in the shadow of Mount Kazbegi (5,047m). This iconic 14th-century church, located in the historic Khevi region, is one of Georgia's most recognisable symbols, renowned for its remote setting and traditional Georgian architecture against the backdrop of the snow-capped Caucasus mountains. During our excursion, we will ascend by 4x4 along the winding mountain road, explore the ancient monastic complex and take in panoramic views of the surrounding glaciers and peaks.  

Day 3 - Gudauri - Uplistsikhe - Gori - Kutaisi

Uplistsikhe

Uplistsikhe Located in the Kartli region of central Georgia, Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-cut cave city dating back to the first millennium BC. This extraordinary archaeological complex, considered one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus, was an important religious and commercial centre along the historic Silk Road. Its architectural structures include pagan temples, Christian basilicas and civic buildings that reflect the unique fusion of Christian and pagan styles. The city is notable for its street system, secret tunnels and an exceptionally well-preserved Roman theatre. During our visit we will explore the ancient wine cellars, walk through lanes carved from stone and marvel at the panoramic views of the Mtkvari River from atop this natural acropolis, travelling through more than 3,000 years of Caucasian history.  

Stalin Museum

Museo de Stalin The Stalin Museum in Gori, birthplace of the controversial Soviet leader, is one of the last museums in the world dedicated to Josef Stalin. The complex includes the original birthplace, a Soviet palace-style building and Stalin's personal railway carriage. The exhibition houses an extensive collection of personal objects, photographs, historical documents and the original death mask of the dictator. During our visit, we will walk through the halls documenting Stalin's life from his youth in Georgia to his Soviet leadership, examine his luxurious armoured railway carriage and reflect on the complex historical legacy he left in the region.  

Day 4 - Kutaisi - Bagrati - Gelati - Prometheus Cave - Borjomi - Akhaltsikhe

Bagrati Cathedral

Catedral de Bagrati Dominating the Kutaisi skyline from Ukimerioni Hill, the majestic Bagrati Cathedral is a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture and a symbol of the country's Golden Age. Built during the reign of King Bagrat III in the 11th century, this Orthodox church exemplifies the grandeur of classic Georgian architectural style with its distinctive central dome and elaborate stone reliefs. Although partly reconstructed in 2012, it remains one of Georgia's most important monuments and was part of the UNESCO World Heritage. During our visit, we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Kutaisi from its terraces, admire the architectural details fusing ancient and modern elements, and experience the serenity of this sacred space that has witnessed over a thousand years of history. Gelati Academy

Academia de Gelati Gelati Academy, located in western Georgia near Kutaisi, is one of the most significant cultural centres of the medieval Caucasus. This fortified monastery from the 12th century, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was an important centre of Georgian education and literature where Christian and classical traditions converged. Its impressive frescoes, unique architecture and the Royal Academy stand as testaments to Georgia's Golden Age. During our visit, we will explore the majestic stone buildings and admire the intricate frescoes adorning its walls, while immersing ourselves in the contemplative atmosphere that once inspired the greatest thinkers of the medieval Georgian kingdom. Prometheus Cave

La cueva de Prometeus Prometheus Cave, located near Kutaisi in Georgia, is one of the country's most impressive and extensive caves, standing out as a major natural and tourist attraction. Discovered in 1984, this fascinating underground cavern offers a journey through vast chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites and spectacular rock formations that, thanks to careful lighting, create a magical and enveloping atmosphere. In addition to the well-laid paths for exploring its impressive interior landscapes, visitors can enjoy a peaceful boat ride along the underground river that flows through the cave. During our visit, we will walk through the illuminated passageways, marvelling at formations sculpted by nature over centuries, and enjoy a boat ride that allows us to immerse ourselves in the serenity and hidden beauty of this underground world. Borjomi

Bordjomi Nestled in the picturesque Mtkvari valley in central Georgia, Borjomi is a legendary spa destination world-famous for its curative mineral waters, which spring up naturally warm from the depths of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. This elegant resort town, which reached its heyday during 19th-century tsarist Russia, preserves magnificent imperial-style mansions and extensive historic parks. Its mineral water, bottled since 1890, is considered a Georgian national treasure and has been valued for centuries for its medicinal properties. During our stay, we will stroll through the romantic Mineral Park, taste the thermal waters directly from historic springs and explore the pristine trails of the national park, one of the largest in Europe. Day 5 - Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia - Khertvisi - Tbilisi

Vardzia

Vardzia Carved into the vertical face of Mount Erusheli, Vardzia emerges as a stunning 12th-century cave monastery city, symbol of the cultural zenith of medieval Georgia during the reign of Queen Tamar. This monastic complex extends over 500 metres and reaches up to 19 levels, housing more than 600 rooms including churches, wine cellars, libraries and an intricate system of tunnels and irrigation. The site is particularly notable for the Church of the Dormition, which preserves exceptional 12th-century frescoes, including a famous portrait of Queen Tamar. During our exploration, we will navigate the secret tunnels and staircases connecting the different chambers, discover ancient wine cellars and marvel at the medieval frescoes that have survived earthquakes and centuries of history in this rock-hewn architectural gem.

Khertvisi Fortress

Fortaleza Khertvisi Khertvisi Fortress, situated in the Samtskhe-Javakheti valley of Georgia, is one of the country's oldest fortresses, with origins dating back to the 2nd century BC. Strategically located at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani rivers, it was an important defence during the medieval period and a key point on the Silk Road. Its imposing walls, towers and panoramic valley views make it a symbol of the region's historic resilience. During our visit we will explore the well-preserved structures, climb the towers to admire the landscape and immerse ourselves in the stories that make Khertvisi a place full of charm and history.
