Gonio Fortress

Gonio Fortress Gonio Fortress, located near the Black Sea coast a few kilometres from Batumi in Georgia, is a historically significant monument. Built in Roman times, this fortification dates to the 1st century AD and is considered one of the country's oldest archaeological sites. Famous for its defensive design and connection to the Silk Road, Gonio also holds legends linked to the tomb of Apostle Matthias, making it a place where history and myth intertwine. During our visit we will walk its ancient walls, explore the archaeological museum and uncover the mysteries and legends surrounding this fascinating Black Sea destination.

Prometheus Cave

Prometheus Cave Prometheus Cave, located near Kutaisi in Georgia, is one of the most impressive and extensive caves in the country and a major natural attraction. Discovered in 1984, this fascinating underground cavern takes visitors through vast chambers adorned with stalactites, stalagmites and spectacular rock formations that, thanks to careful lighting, create a magical and immersive atmosphere. In addition to the well-marked paths through the stunning interior landscapes, visitors can also enjoy a peaceful boat ride along the underground river that flows through the cave, offering a unique experience that highlights the natural and geological richness of the region. During our visit we will walk through the illuminated passages, marvelling at formations sculpted by nature over centuries, and enjoy a boat ride that lets us sink into the serenity and hidden beauty of this underground world — making this an unforgettable experience.

Borjomi

Borjomi Nestled in the picturesque Mtkvari Valley in central Georgia, Borjomi is a legendary spa resort world-renowned for its healing mineral waters, which naturally spring hot from the depths of the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. This elegant resort town, which reached its peak during the Russian tsarist era of the 19th century, preserves magnificent mansions of imperial architecture and expansive historic parks. Its mineral water, bottled since 1890, is considered a Georgian national treasure and has been prized for centuries for its medicinal properties. During our stay we will stroll through the romantic Mineral Park, taste the thermal waters directly from the historic springs and explore the pristine trails of the national park, one of the largest in Europe.  

Akhaltsikhe Fortress (Rabat)

Akhaltsikhe Fortress (Rabat) Akhaltsikhe Fortress (Rabat), located in the picturesque town of Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, is an impressive historical complex that combines medieval architecture with unique cultural elements. Founded in the 9th century, this fortress has witnessed numerous civilisations, reflected in its churches, mosques and gardens. Its distinctive design blends Georgian, Ottoman and Persian influences, making it a symbol of the region's rich multicultural history. Restored in recent years, Rabat also houses a museum, hotel and modern recreational areas. During our visit we will explore its imposing walls, stroll through the beautifully maintained gardens and discover the museum to learn the fascinating stories that shaped this unique destination.  

Day 5 - Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia - Khertvisi - Tbilisi

Vardzia

Vardzia Carved into the sheer cliff face of Mount Erusheli, Vardzia emerges as an impressive 12th-century cave monastery city, symbol of the cultural zenith of medieval Georgia under Queen Tamar. This monastic complex stretches over 500 metres and rises up to 19 storeys high, housing more than 600 rooms including churches, wine cellars, libraries and an intricate system of tunnels and irrigation. The site is particularly notable for the Church of the Dormition, which preserves exceptional 12th-century frescoes including a famous portrait of Queen Tamar. During our exploration we will navigate the secret tunnels and staircases connecting the different chambers, discover ancient wine cellars and marvel at the medieval frescoes that have survived earthquakes and centuries of history in this architectural gem carved from rock.

Khertvisi Fortress

Khertvisi Fortress Khertvisi Fortress, situated in the Samtskhe-Javakheti valley of Georgia, is one of the country's oldest fortresses, with origins dating back to the 2nd century BC. Strategically positioned at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani rivers, it served as a key defence during medieval times and a vital point on the Silk Road. Its imposing walls, towers and panoramic views of the valley make it a symbol of the region's historical resilience. During our visit we will explore the well-preserved structures, climb the towers to admire the landscape and immerse ourselves in the stories that make Khertvisi such a captivating and historic place.

Rustaveli Avenue

Rustaveli Avenue Rustaveli Avenue, the main artery of Tbilisi, stretches 1.5 kilometres from Freedom Square to Republic Square. This iconic street, named after the medieval poet Shota Rustaveli, is home to the city's most prestigious buildings, including the Parliament of Georgia, the Opera Theatre and the National Museum, all built in neoclassical and Art Nouveau style during the 19th century. During our stroll we will enjoy the vibrant Georgian cultural life, stop at elegant historic cafés and admire the monumental architecture while exploring the many shops and art galleries.  

Metekhi Square

Metekhi Square Metekhi Square, one of the most iconic historic sites in Tbilisi, stands on a cliff with sweeping views over the Mtkvari River. This landmark is dominated by the 13th-century church and the equestrian statue of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, the city's legendary founder. The square served as the seat of the royal palace for centuries, establishing itself as a strategic and cultural centre. Although the original church was built in the 5th century, the structure we see today is a 13th-century reconstruction. During our tour we will take in the impressive panoramic views of the old town and the famous baths district, explore Metekhi Church and delve into the fascinating history of the king whose vision established Tbilisi as Georgia's capital — forging one of the most representative places of Georgian heritage.  

Narikala Fortress

Narikala Fortress Narikala Fortress, the iconic symbol of Tbilisi, has dominated the city skyline since the 4th century. This ancient citadel, originally Persian and later expanded by Arabs and Georgians, rises on a steep hill overlooking the Mtkvari River and the old town. Its imposing walls and towers have witnessed the various civilisations that have ruled Georgia, including the reconstructed St Nicholas Church from the 12th century. During our visit we will take the cable car up to the fortress, walk its ancient defensive walls and capture impressive panoramic views of Tbilisi at sunset.  

Abanotubani

Abanotubani Abanotubani, the historic sulphurous baths district in the heart of old Tbilisi, is the original core where the Georgian capital was founded. Located on the right bank of the Mtkvari River, this neighbourhood is famous for its characteristic sulphur baths with brick domes rising from the ground, witnessing over 1,500 years of history. The natural thermal waters that bubble up from the earth maintain a constant temperature of 37–40 °C, and their healing properties have attracted illustrious visitors such as Alexander Pushkin and Alexandre Dumas. During our visit we will immerse ourselves in these streets of legendary thermal waters and get lost in the picturesque medieval alleyways that wind between the baths, breathing in the most authentic essence of old Tbilisi.  

Anchiskhati

Anchiskhati Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in Tbilisi, is a vital testament to Georgia's Christian history since the 6th century. Located in the heart of the old town, this sandstone church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, takes its name from the miraculous icon of Christ (Anchiskhati) that it housed for centuries. Its three-nave basilica architecture, typically Georgian, is complemented by medieval frescoes and a 17th-century bell tower. During our exploration we will take in the mystical atmosphere of the temple, listen to the ancient Georgian polyphonic chants that still echo through its walls and admire the craftsmanship of its traditional icons.

Built in the 6th century on a hilltop, this monastery offers stunning panoramic views of the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. Considered a masterpiece of Georgian medieval architecture, it is a sacred place that symbolises the adoption of Christianity in Georgia. Svetitskhoveli

Svetitskhoveli Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, located in the ancient capital of Mtskheta, is the spiritual heart of Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. This majestic 11th-century cathedral, built on the site where Christ's robe is said to be buried, is an extraordinary example of Georgian medieval architecture, with its tall decorated stone facade, central dome and historic frescoes. During our exploration we will discover the many legends surrounding this sacred place, admire the extraordinary ecclesiastical architecture and witness the ancient religious traditions that still endure in this spiritual centre. Ananuri

Ananuri Ananuri, an impressive medieval fortress 66 kilometres from Tbilisi, rises majestically above the Zhinvali Reservoir on the historic Georgian Military Highway. This 13th-century architectural complex, which served as the seat of the eristavi (dukes) of Aragvi, combines defensive elements with extraordinary examples of Georgian religious architecture, notably its main church with intricate stone reliefs and well-preserved frescoes. During our visit we will explore the fortified towers, admire the panoramic views of the turquoise reservoir and discover the secrets of Georgian medieval architecture as we stroll through its ancient cobbled courtyards. Gergeti Trinity Church

Gergeti Trinity Church Gergeti Trinity Church stands majestically at 2,170 metres altitude beneath the shadow of Mount Kazbegi (5,047 m). This iconic 14th-century church, located in the historic region of Khevi, is one of Georgia's most recognisable symbols, distinguished by its remote setting and traditional Georgian architecture against the backdrop of the snowy Caucasus mountains. During our excursion we will ascend by 4x4 along the winding mountain track, explore the ancient monastic complex and take in the panoramic views of the surrounding glaciers and peaks. Uplistsikhe

Uplistsikhe Located in the Kartli region of central Georgia, Uplistsikhe is an ancient cave city carved into rock dating back to the first millennium BC. This extraordinary archaeological complex, considered one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus, was a major religious and commercial hub on the historic Silk Road. Its architectural structures include pagan temples, Christian basilicas and civic buildings that reflect the unique fusion of Christian and pagan styles. The city is notable for its street system, secret tunnels and an exceptionally well-preserved Roman theatre. During our visit we will explore the ancient wine cellars, walk through stone-carved alleyways and marvel at the panoramic views of the Mtkvari River from the top of this natural acropolis, travelling through more than 3,000 years of Caucasian history.  

Stalin Museum

Stalin Museum The Stalin Museum in Gori, birthplace of the controversial Soviet leader, is one of the last museums dedicated to Josef Stalin in the world. The complex includes the original birthplace, a Soviet palace-style building and Stalin's personal railway carriage. The exhibition holds an extensive collection of personal belongings, photographs, historical documents and the original death mask of the dictator. During our visit we will explore the rooms documenting Stalin's life from his youth in Georgia to his Soviet leadership, examine his luxurious armoured railway carriage and reflect on the complex historical legacy he left in the region.  

Day 9 - Kutaisi - Ushguli - Mestia

Ushguli

Ushguli Perched at 2,200 metres above sea level, Ushguli stands as one of the highest permanently inhabited settlements in Europe, located in the remote region of Svaneti, Georgia. This cluster of medieval villages, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, captivates with over 20 12th-century stone defensive towers — characteristic symbols of Svan architecture rising majestically against the backdrop of Mount Shkhara, Georgia's highest peak. The village preserves intact the traditions, language and customs of the ancient Svan culture, resisting the passage of time. During our exploration we will stay in traditional local homes, hike to the Shkhara Glacier, photograph the impressive sunrise over the medieval towers and share unique moments with the inhabitants of this community that keeps the spirit of ancient Svaneti alive.  

Day 10 - Mestia - Zugdidi - Dendrological Park - Batumi

Dadiani Palace

Built in the 19th century, this palace combines European and Georgian architectural elements. Today it houses the Museum of History and Architecture, displaying unique artefacts including the death mask of Napoleon Bonaparte. Surrounded by lush gardens, this site is a testament to the cultural splendour of the region. Shekvetili Dendrological Park

Shekvetili Dendrological Park Shekvetili Dendrological Park is located on the Black Sea coast in the Guria region of Georgia and is one of the most innovative and modern botanical gardens in the Caucasus. This fascinating green space, opened in 2020, covers 60 hectares and showcases over 200 exotic plant species arranged in different microclimates and themed environments. The park features a state-of-the-art tropical greenhouse, Japanese gardens and an impressive collection of giant bamboo and palm trees. During our tour we will marvel at the elevated walkways through the treetops, explore Georgia's largest hedge maze and enjoy panoramic views from the observation tower overlooking the entire botanical complex.
