From the Towers to the Coast

This is a journey through the treasures of Georgia, a destination full of history, culture and breathtaking landscapes. This 6-day itinerary will take you from the wonders of the Kutaisi region, with its iconic monasteries and cathedrals declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, to the alpine landscapes of Mestia and the mystical Ushguli, the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe. You will also explore the vibrant Batumi, a coastal gem on the Black Sea, famous for its modern architecture, beaches and botanical gardens.

You will begin your adventure in Kutaisi, visiting historical monuments such as the Bagrati Cathedral, the monasteries of Gelati and Motsameta, and the iconic Nikortsminda complex. Then you will venture into the majestic Caucasus mountains, where Mestia and Ushguli will welcome you with their imposing views, medieval towers and unique atmosphere. On the way back to the lowlands, you will discover the Dendrological Park of Zugdidi before heading to Batumi, where you will enjoy its blend of modernity and Georgian traditions. This itinerary is perfect for those seeking the ideal combination of nature, culture and relaxation.

Bagrati Cathedral

Catedral de Bagrati Dominating Kutaisi's skyline from Ukimerioni Hill, the majestic Bagrati Cathedral is a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture and a symbol of the country's Golden Age. Built during the reign of King Bagrat III in the 11th century, this Orthodox church exemplifies the grandeur of the classic Georgian architectural style with its characteristic central dome and elaborate stone reliefs. Although partially reconstructed in 2012, it retains its significance as one of Georgia's most important monuments and was part of the UNESCO World Heritage. During our visit, we'll take in the spectacular panoramic views of Kutaisi from its terraces, admire the architectural details blending ancient and modern elements, and experience the serenity of this sacred space that has witnessed over a thousand years of history. Motsameta

Motsameta Motsameta Monastery, perched on a picturesque cliff above the Tskaltsitela river near Kutaisi, Georgia, is a place full of history and spirituality. This monastery, built in honour of the martyrs David and Konstantin, dates back to the 11th century and is known for its harmonious architecture and impressive natural surroundings. Steeped in legend, Motsameta is a popular destination for pilgrims and visitors seeking peace and beauty. Gelati Academy

Academia de Gelati The Gelati Academy, located in the western region of Georgia near Kutaisi, is one of the most significant cultural centres of the medieval Caucasus. This 12th-century fortified monastery, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was an important centre of Georgian education and literature, where Christian and classical traditions converged. Its impressive frescoes, unique architecture and the Royal Academy stand as testimonies of the Georgian Golden Age. During our visit, we'll explore the majestic stone buildings and admire the intricate frescoes adorning its walls, while immersing ourselves in the contemplative atmosphere that once inspired the greatest thinkers of the medieval Georgian kingdom. Nikortsminda

Nikortsminda Nikortsminda Cathedral, located in the Racha region of Georgia, is a magnificent example of medieval ecclesiastical architecture. Surrounded by mountain landscapes, Nikortsminda is a symbol of Georgian spirituality and art, as well as a place of great serenity. During our visit we'll admire the detailed exterior reliefs, explore its interior adorned with vibrant frescoes and enjoy the peace that emanates from this historic site in the heart of Racha. Day 3 - Kutaisi - Ushguli - Mestia

Ushguli

Ushguli Perched at 2,200 metres above sea level, Ushguli stands out as one of the highest permanently inhabited settlements in Europe, located in the remote Svaneti region of Georgia. This cluster of medieval villages, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, captivates with its more than 20 defensive stone towers from the 12th century, characteristic symbols of Svan architecture that rise majestically against the backdrop of Mount Shkhara, Georgia's highest peak. The village preserves intact the traditions, language and customs of the ancient Svan culture, resisting the passage of time. During our exploration, we'll stay in traditional local houses, hike to the Shkhara glacier, photograph the impressive sunrise over the medieval towers and share unique moments with the inhabitants of this community that keeps the spirit of ancient Svaneti alive.  

Day 4 - Mestia - Zugdidi - Dendrological Park - Batumi

Dadiani Palace

Palacio de los Dadianis Dadiani Palace, located in Zugdidi, Georgia, is a magnificent historic complex that served as the residence of the Dadiani family, rulers of Samegrelo. Built in the 19th century, this palace combines European and Georgian architectural elements. Today it houses the Museum of History and Architecture, which displays unique artefacts including the death mask of Napoléon Bonaparte. Surrounded by lush gardens, this site is a testament to the region's cultural splendour. During our visit we'll stroll through its elegant halls, explore its collection of art and historical artefacts and enjoy the gardens surrounding this imposing palace. Shekvetili Dendrological Park

Parque dendrógico de Shekvetili Shekvetili Dendrological Park is located on the Black Sea coast in the Guria region of Georgia, representing one of the most innovative and modern botanical gardens in the Caucasus. This fascinating green space, opened in 2020, covers 60 hectares of land where more than 200 species of exotic plants are displayed in different microclimates and themed environments. The park stands out for its state-of-the-art tropical greenhouse, its Japanese gardens and its impressive collection of giant bamboo and palm trees. During our tour, we'll marvel at the elevated walkways through the treetops, explore the largest hedge maze in Georgia and enjoy panoramic views from the observation tower that overlooks the entire botanical complex. Batumi

BatumiLocated on the Black Sea coast, Batumi is the second-largest city in Georgia and capital of the Adjara region, standing out as an important seaport and tourist destination in the Caucasus. This vibrant city combines a rich history dating back to the 4th century BC with surprising contemporary architecture, where futuristic buildings intertwine with elegant 19th-century constructions. The Batumi Boulevard, a 7-kilometre seafront promenade, represents the heart of the city, while its old town enchants with cobblestone alleys and traditional Georgian balconies. During our visit, we'll stroll along the lively seafront boulevard, enjoy Adjaran cuisine at traditional restaurants and marvel at the light and music show of the Dancing Fountains, a unique experience combining modernity with old-world charm. Created by sculptor Kemal Turmanidze, this museum offers a unique collection of wooden sculptures and interactive exhibitions representing daily life, traditional crafts and customs from the country's various regions. Set in a welcoming atmosphere, Borjgalo is ideal for discovering the essence of Georgian life. During our visit we'll explore the detailed sculptures, learn about Georgia's ancestral traditions and immerse ourselves in the cultural richness that makes this museum a unique place.

Gonio Fortress

Fortaleza de Gonio Gonio Fortress, located near the Black Sea coast, a few kilometres from Batumi in Georgia, is a historical monument of great significance. Built during the Roman era, this fortification dates back to the 1st century AD and is considered one of the oldest archaeological sites in the country. Famous for its defensive design and its connection to the Silk Road, Gonio also holds legends related to the tomb of the Apostle Matthias, making this place a blend of history and myth. During our visit we'll walk along its ancient walls, explore the archaeological museum and discover the mysteries and legends surrounding this fascinating destination on the Black Sea.
