It is a journey through the heart of Kakheti, Georgia's most celebrated wine region, where the millenary wine-making tradition merges with the rich history and architecture of the country. This one-day route from Tbilisi immerses you in a journey combining majestic monasteries, historic palaces and centuries-old wineries, as you travel through the picturesque landscapes of the Alazani Valley. The itinerary is meticulously designed to offer you a complete experience of Georgian wine culture, together with its historical and religious heritage.

The journey begins in the capital Tbilisi, heading towards the historic city of Telavi, capital of Kakheti, with its charming old town and lively local market. You will continue to the imposing Alaverdi Monastery, a majestic 11th-century cathedral that dominates the valley with its unique architecture. The next stop is the Gremi Complex, former capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti, with its iconic church

Telavi

Telavi Nestled in the heart of the Kakheti wine region, Telavi rises majestically on the foothills of the Caucasus, serving as the historic capital of this eastern region of Georgia. This medieval city captivates with its imposing 17th-century fortress, the Palace of King Erekle II, its ancient walls and the legendary 900-year-old plane tree that has been a silent witness to its rich history. Telavi is particularly known for its traditional wine cellars and its crucial role in Georgia's millenary wine tradition, where the kvevri fermentation method is still alive. During our stay, we will walk its cobblestone streets, visit the wonderful nearby monasteries, take part in a local wine tasting and immerse ourselves in the authentic Georgian hospitality of traditional wine houses. Alaverdi Monastery

Alaverdi Monastery Alaverdi Monastery, located in the Kakheti region of Georgia, is an impressive cathedral dating from the 6th century. This historic site was founded by the monk Joseph of Alaverdi and in the 11th century became one of the tallest churches in Georgia with its magnificent dome. Surrounded by vineyards, the monastery is also renowned for its wine-making tradition, deeply connecting it to the culture of the region. Gremi

Gremi Gremi, located in the Kakheti region of Georgia, is a fascinating architectural complex that was the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti in the 16th century. This historic site houses the Church of the Archangels, a bell tower and the ruins of the ancient city surrounded by a mountain landscape. Its strategic location and history as an important commercial centre make it a symbol of Georgia's rich cultural heritage. Khareba Tunnel Winery

Khareba Tunnel Winery Nestled in the heart of the Kakheti region, Khareba Winery stands out for its extraordinary tunnel system excavated into the Caucasian mountain, extending over 7.7 kilometres at a depth of 60 metres. Originally built during the Soviet era, this underground labyrinth maintains a constant natural temperature of 12–14°C, creating ideal conditions for wine ageing. The winery combines traditional Georgian wine-making methods in qvevri with modern technology, producing exceptional wines from indigenous grape varieties such as Saperavi and Rkatsiteli. During our visit, we will walk the mysterious tunnels with torches in hand, learn about Georgia's 8,000-year wine-making history and taste a select variety of wines while savouring local cuisine.
